Tragedy In Westchester: Toddler Found Injured In Domestic Incident Dies

The 2 1/2-year-old daughter of a knife-wielding woman shot by police responding to a report of a child in need of medical care has succumbed to her injuries after a domestic incident Saturday afternoon in Westchester.

The incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on Chestnut Avenue, a dead-end street  in the Harbor Heights area of Mamaroneck.

Details of the nature of the injuries sustained by the child that prompted the police response have not yet been released. Officers performed life-saving measures on the toddler upon arrival and immediately called for an ambulance. Medical examiners will perform an autopsy to determine how the child died.

Police said the 28-year-old woman, who remains hospitalized, was given "numerous commands to show her hands" before attacking officers with a knife after being Tasered. Police did not say how many shots were fired at the woman.

Two officers suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said. Two other officers were also evaluated at the hospital, police said.

The woman was described as emotionally disturbed. Neither her identity nor condition has been released. Charges have not yet been filed.
